- Those books and magazines are often not tied to our specific sub genre like ro minimal and underground club music. Why the fuck should I want to spend time on watching or reading about how I should EQ an accoustic drumkit or panning an acoustic guitar or EQ-ing a Bass guitare? We honestly don’t produce country or freaking EDM shit, right? We produce underground music, dark, trippy, groovy shit!
Before I give you the solutions, I wanted to quickly share a story that happened to me:
After finishing my Audio Engineering degree in Switzerland In 2017/2018, I moved with my wife to Los Angeles.
My Goal was to deepen my mixing and mastering skills and that’s why I’ve taken some more in depth classes on those specific topics at Point Blank Music School in LA.

So, the first few weeks have been just about all the tools and techniques, the reverbs and compressors and so on. Blablabla, all that boring textbook technical stuff.

Anyway, where I got the most out of my mixing & mastering skills was honestly by just sitting there, and watching my teacher going through a whole mix or even master, from start to finish.

I took notes from the parts that gave me AHA moments and asked questions if I just had any of them.
So for mixing, Sameer Sengupta, my mentor from Pointblank Mixing classes did it all on a pair of KRK Rokit and I honestly don’t remember which type it actually was, but who cares, the fact is, he did it in a NOT perfectly treated room and on speakers that aren’t costing as much as a Ferrari... And it still sounded killer!

Anyway, he even told us that he uses headphones most of the time for mixing at home and also for his client's tracks!
And just to paint the picture here:
